Revd Tracy Ward

Revd Tracy Ward – Vicar

Hello. I am wife to Martyn and mother to 4 beautiful girls and also vicar of St Thomas, Mellor.

I was ordained in 2016 and served my curacy at St. Anne’s Church in Sale in Trafford. I grew up near Accrington in Lancashire and moved to Manchester to train as a nurse and worked in hospitals in Manchester and Leicester.

I enjoy reading, walking our dog and spending time with family and friends.

I am passionate about helping people to find time and space to re-discover the God that has been loving them all of their lives.

You can contact me in the following ways:

David Shercliff

Dave Shercliff – Reader

Dave along with his wife Liz have recently joined St Thomas’s but have lived the parish for some time since moving from Glossop where Dave had trained as a Reader in Derby Diocese. Dave has served in the Dioceses of Derby and Chester, leading and preaching in various churches, as well as leading Diocesan courses and retreats.

He has had particular experience as a youth leader.

Dave has a full time job as a Civil Engineer working for a manufacturing company in Meltham, near Holmfirth and enjoys discussions on sharing Gods’ love in the workplace.

He loves the theatre and the great outdoors and if you’re up early you may meet Dave and Liz doing their morning constitutional around Etherow Park just around the corner from their house on the edge of Marple Bridge.

Andrew Sanders Church Warden

Andrew Sanders – Church Warden

Andrew is a newcomer – moving to the Parish in 2007. Since then he has accumulated various parish posts – lay assistant, server and church warden amongst others.

Andrew lives across the water in Marple and can often be spotted with Shadow the black lab and his wife Heather on the Canal. Always happy to tackle a challenge fuelled by a cup of tea or glass of wine.

Other interests include reading, theatre and tramping hills.

David Cunningham

David Cunningham – Churchwarden

David, married to Helen for just a little short of 40 years, lives in the village of Rowarth., they have two children, Julian, who together with his wife Michelle, live in Mallorca, and Alice who together with her husband and two children live in Compstall. David and Helen came to Rowarth in July 2017 to be near their young grandchildren.

Life is very busy in the Parish of Thomas, Mellor. David is one the Church Wardens, a role that he really enjoys. David says that he decided on St. Thomas as his church of choice simply because it is there that he received the warmest and most friendly greeting on his first Sunday visit. I see my role as Church Warden as continuing to present that friendly greeting to all who arrive at our wonderful church.

David is a Tertiary of the Society of St Francis (TSSF), also known as the “Third Order”. This order was instituted by Francis himself in the year 1221, to sit along side the 1st Order (the male Friars) who live in community and the 2nd Order (The Poor Claires).

Rachel Howling – Deputy Church Warden

Rachel Howling – Deputy Churchwarden

I moved to Mellor, having returned to the northwest post uni, in 1997. I was immediately made to feel very at home. I love being part of such an active, vibrant community.

I have been involved in St Thomas Church for 14 years. Working with children and young people is a passion. I led Vestry Venturer sessions (Sunday School!) for many years and also helped at, and then ran, our annual Edale residential. All 3 of my children have been involved in the Rose Queen, which has given our family wonderful opportunities to get more involved in village life. All my family are also members of our church choir and, as a natural consequence of that, work as bar crew at the church fete.

I first took on the role of Church Warden a few years back, and overlapped between Rev Peter and Rev Alex, with a lengthy interregnum in between (I am hoping not to repeat that experience this time round!). I was delighted when Tracy asked if I would take on the role again. I would love to help develop what our church community offers families and young people. I’m always happy to hear people’s ideas and thoughts, so if you see me around, come and have a chat!
