8.30 am: A service of Holy Communion lasting about 45 minutes. At this service there are no hymns and a shortened talk. People enjoy this service as it is quiet and reflective.
10.00 am: Our main service of Parish Communion lasting about 75 minutes, followed by an open invitation to join us for tea or coffee in the Parish Centre. We have a strong choral tradition at St. Thomas’ and at this service you would normally expect four hymns and some sung responses – but don’t worry if you are new because the choir will lead you through everything! Many people in the area choose this service for their preferred worship and numbers are growing!
Don’t worry about dressing up for our services! You are just as welcome in jeans and t-shirt as in your Sunday best…
Children are always welcome for this service. They are welcome to stay in church the whole time, but if you would prefer we have two groups for younger people that take place in the vestry during the service (except during the holidays). Those under five tend to go out during the first hymn for some praise and play, whilst the older children (the Vestry Venturers) go out just before the Bible readings and then come back in just before the communion part of the service. If you are new, just ask one of the welcomers on the door what is going on that day and they will talk you through it.
6.30 pm: Evening Prayer, lasting about 30 minutes. A quiet, said service to end the day.
In addition we hold a very special Choral Evensong once a month (except during the holidays) – do look at the What’s On at St.Thomas’ list on the right of this page to see when the next one is.
If you are coming to St. Thomas’ for the first time and would like us to look out for you, please contact us – and when you come in the door, just tell one of the welcomers (who will be handing out the service books) that you are new!
