Getting Married

Congratulations on your engagement!
We are delighted that you are thinking about marrying at St. Thomas’ Church, Mellor, the Church on the Hill. Here’s some basic information that we hope will help:-

Do I qualify to marry at St Thomas’?
You must either live in the parish or have a Qualifying Connection to the Parish. If you do not already have a Qualifying Connection, you can gain one by becoming a regular worshipper here.

What do you mean by ‘Qualifying Connection’?
Any one of the following counts as a Qualifying Connection:

  • I was christened, or confirmed, at St Thomas’ Mellor
  • My parent or grandparent was married at St Thomas’ Mellor
  • I have lived in Mellor parish, or my parent has lived here, for at least 6 months (at any time during my lifetime)
  • I have attended public worship at St Thomas’ Mellor, or my parent has, for at least 6 months (at any time during my lifetime)

What will the wedding cost?
The fee for the wedding service is set nationally each year.  For 2018 it is:

Wedding Service£441.00
Marriage Certificate£4.00
Calling of Banns at St. Thomas'£29.00
Total for a wedding at St. Thomas'£474.00
In addition the church charges, optional ‘local fees’ for extras such as fees for the organist, choir and bell-ringers, if required.

What do I do next?
